    Fabulous

Very close to the Kings Canyon National Park entrance. Staff were friendly and upgraded us without us asking. Not the best looking hotel, needs to be upgraded and painted to be a bit more pleasant, but if you are just looking for a large room to sleep in when you are not hitting the park then this will do.

needs a little TLC- good size rooms, but upgraded linens and paint may make it feel a bit more modern.

    Good

The location very near the town and the sequoia park. Room was big and clean. Very good price.

It's old and some works on restrooms are needed. Breakfast is very limited but ok

    Good

The room and beds were clean and in good order. Staff was friendly. Room had a balcony with chairs to sit outside. Easy to reach Sequoia Natl. Park from this location.

Breakfast was rather crowded; simply due to lack of space (tables, seats). WiFi was unreliable in the rooms, only working at the pool area. I was told this was due to a recent fire at the reception, though I recall a similar experience on these aspects from an earlier stay.

    Fabulous

Nice views from room late hours of the swimming pool picnic/bbq/playground area the cleaning staff were all very nice and helpful.

Person who checked us in (myself/boyfriend and our friend) would not let us pay for the room on 3 different credit cards. Thus, we had to use the cash we needed for traveling. She finally ended up letting our friend pay his share of the room on his card, but my boyfriend and I had to pay with cash. She stated that it was "complicated" to let us use 3 different cards. I understand it involves more work; however, it is certainly doable and in fact the Best Western in Tehachapi just let us do this with no problem the night before our stay at whl. the hot tub was filthy and thus we could not use it. one of the swings was broken. the breakfast was merely adequate, with old oranges, no eggs, sausage, or hot chocolate. having waffles as the main breakfast item is inefficient as there are only two waffle makers and it takes too long for each person to make his or her waffle (though we enjoyed having waffles). WHL is overly expensive. that all said, i would still recommend it for its location and pretty views.

    Exceptional

The king deluxe room was roomy. The shower was hot and nigh pressure. The room was quiet, the air conditioning worked well and it was nice to have a patio, even though the view was of a lawn and berm in the foreground, the distant hills are lovely. The in room fridge and coffee ( and extra sink) were convenient, as was the Internet access. The bed was comfy. The hotel does not tell guests, but the been behind the hotel can be crossed and a local path leads to the beautiful river at a great place for safe swimming. The hotel pool is heated and the manager will heat the hot tubs, but require 30-40 minute warning to warm up.

The breakfast is basic, coffee, orange juice, cereal, waffles (yum), Danish and toast. There were oranges some days. This was fine for me, but picky breakfast eaters might not be pleased.

    Good

Room furnishings were of very poor quality. The room was worth $50 a night and no more.

    The location

Although advertised for free, Internet was only available once in a while. The room was too big for the capacity for the airco. We had to sit in the heat for hours before it cooled off. The room was not cleaned well.

    Very good

Considering the options available in the area Western Holiday Lodge was a good choice. The room was clean and everything was in good working order (coffee pot, microwave, mini frige, and blow dryer) . The owner was friendly and helpful. I liked that the river was easily accessible( a short walk to a small but shady beach). The river was clean and cool, and at this spot very easy to swim in even for young children. Shallow with not too much current, a great way to cool off on a hot day.

The room lacked good natural lighting. Not much to be done about that.Electric lighting was fine. The grounds could use some refurbishing. It was a bit depressing to see broken swings, only one was usable. The pool was fighting a battle against lots of sun screened bodies. The pool was loosing. The Jacuzzi wasn't even in the fight. Thankfully I did not book this room with the anticipation of lounging by the pool. The WHL is a fine place to sack out between hikes in the Sequoia's but if you want lux maybe a B and B would suit you better.

Electricity were out twice within the first hour after we arrived. It was pitch dark in the room during that period of time with no ac on a 95f evening. We used flash light on the cellphone to find our way out. At the front desk, we complained and the receptionist changed us to a room in a diffident building. The bathroom was filthy - hundreds of Mosquitos flying around huge spiders in the tub. We asked the staff and was told there is nothing they can do. Being allergic to mosquito bite myself, the whole night was miserable - I put on loads of off deep woods and kept alert the whole night. Luckily our 22 month old was not attacked by them. We booked our trip with short notice and this was the only place available in three river in the holiday weekend. So I am not sure how budget friendly it is. We stayed at cedar grove lodge for 2 days and the facility was much better. So stay away if possible.

Nice place! Room was big and swimming pool was clean. Breakfast was fine, you could sit outside, tables were set.

The rooms are very old and could use some maintenance, musty smell.

Location was good and staff friendly. For some reason, toilet was filled with dirty water. Otherwise room appeared to be clean.

Pictures were misleading, especially proximity and access to lake.
